Poetry Month 2025: Sauk Originals

Week One - Cinquain

Relax.
Your time is now.
The past is behind you.
Success is around the corner.
Just breathe.

-- Jenny Brown

Beware
Of the silence
Of quiet in between times
This is where your heart dwells within
Relish it

-- Kelsey Head

Week Three - Ekfrastic

A painting hangs on my office wall,
Of a sunset on the Rock River in fall.
This painting of beautiful art,
Will forever live in my heart.

Was painted by Peg,
As a gift when we wed.
The pinks and blues…
Such beautiful hues.

As I sit on the bank and watch the water flow,
It’s my favorite place to be and see the ray’s glow.

The river serene,
The water a still glean,
Above the trees, we watch the sunset,
No single moment I’ll ever forget.

-- Cyndi Starr

Week Two - Blackout

Week Four - Haibun

stars shine as they're bid,
filling night, inspiring
lovers, painters alike

A clear, crisp, bonfire-worthy winter night. The moon reflecting so brightly, the craters are visible to the naked eye, though the naked eye is pained by the power. So beautiful, so lifeless. The cloudless sky appears to be endless; an uncountable number of stars call out the glory of their maker. Without worry or doubt, obeying their laws and fulfilling their purpose, they shine on until the appointed time. All things come to an end. Except eternity.

imagine a sky
stars falling, being called home
a new existence

eternity's an
enigma; understanding
fails to grasp the scope.
