The Learning Commons Library at Sauk Valley Community College offers resources and services to students and employees of the college, as well as residents of the SVCC College District, for education, information, and enjoyment.
Illinois public libraries are funded in large part by property tax dollars. If you live within a public library district, you “pay” for service through your taxes and are eligible to receive a free library card. If you live outside the public library district you are eligible to purchase a nonresident card. Find out more about Public Library Non-Resident Services from the Illinois State Library.
The Sauk Valley Community College Learning Commons Library is not a public library. All residents of the Sauk Valley Community College District who are at least 16 years old and who hold a valid driver’s license or other state-issued I.D. are eligible for a free library card, which allows them to borrow books from the library and participate in the eRead Illinois eBook program. Cards may be renewed on an annual basis with proof of residence.
Books may be borrowed for 4 weeks at a time, and may be renewed up to 3 times as long as no other patron has requested the item. Items that are not returned or renewed within 29 days of their due date will be marked "lost" in the system and billed to the patron. Lost item charges will be removed from the patron's record when the items are returned in good condition. Items may be renewed by telephone, by email, or in person. Any item that is returned in a condition that is not fit for further use must be paid for by the borrower.
Printing, copying, and scanning services are available to all library patrons. Scanning services are free and the following prices apply to printing and copying:
Black & white: 10 cents per page (single or double side)
Color: 25 cents per page (single side only)
